With the 2012 LPGA schedule about to begin, fans are wondering who they should watch. The obvious answer is Yani Tseng.
Coming off a strong finish last year, I will be surprised if Yani Tseng is not among the best women of the LPGA Tour in February.
Yani Tseng’s Career
The 2012 LPGA is Yani Tseng’s fifth year playing among the best female golfers. In each of her previous seasons, Tseng has had several top-10 finishes and won at least one event each year. She’s regularly earned over $1 million on the LPGA money list, with a scoring average around 70. Naturally, she has won several awards for her consistently high ranking on the LPGA leaderboard.
Yani Tseng’s Breakout Year
2011 was Yani Tseng’s best year on the LPGA Tour. She won seven events, which was more than she won in the previous three years combined. She nearly doubled her earnings on the LPGA money list, with almost $3 million in winnings. Of course, these results wouldn’t have come without improved play. In 2011, the LPGA’s Yani Tseng improved her scoring average by a full stroke to 69.66. For all of this, she won the 2011 Rolex Player of the Year.
Yani Tseng and the 2012 LPGA Schedule
When the 2012 LPGA schedule begins overseas, Yani Tseng will be playing near home. Taiwan, her native country, is not far from where the Women’s Australian Open will be played. After playing in Victoria, Australia, the women of the LPGA will compete at the LPGA Thailand 2012 Tournament, which is in Chonburi, Thailand. They will finish the February portion of the 2012 LPGA schedule at the HSBC Women’s Champions 2012 in Singapore.
Yani Tseng will win LPGA Leaderboard
Given Yani Tseng’s consistent performance and breakout year last season, I expect her to be ranked first in the LGPA results after these events. For strategic reasons, the 2012 LPGA schedule will begin near her home. Her fans will be cheering, as Yani Tseng rises to the top of the 2012 LPGA leaderboard in February.
